Founder’s Day Message 2026
Dear School Leaders, Teachers, Staff, and Students of our CHIJ Schools,
Today, we gather as one family to celebrate the Feast of Father Nicolas Barré. We do this in the light of Pentecost. This special day connects our past, our present, and the future we are building together, extending across every CHIJ school and our community at the CHIJ Sanctuary for Children.
Pentecost is all about a transformation of the heart. The early disciples knew exactly what it felt like to experience uncertainty, anxiety, and fear of the unknown. Yet, when the Spirit moved among them, it did not change their difficult circumstances. It changed them. It ignited a resilient, fearless courage inside them, giving them a deep purpose and the absolute certainty that they were never alone. God was with them.
We live in a fast-paced digital world. It is so easy to get caught up in an endless race to perform, to compare our lives through a screen, and to feel the pressure to fit into a mould. Within our schools, studying hard, making discoveries, and growing your talents matter. Striving to excel and achieving academic success is necessary and valuable. But a test score or a grade can never define who you are meant to become.
True education is about expanding your heart as well as your mind. It is about becoming a fully integrated, compassionate human being. We are called to go far beyond ourselves. The unique, God given gifts and strengths you have received were never meant to be hoarded for personal status. They are meant to be poured out to touch the lives of others. True greatness is found when you use your talents generously to lift up those who are struggling, stand with the vulnerable, and ignite a fire that builds a better home, a better school, and a more just society for everyone.
Within these school walls, you are also given a precious space to build connections that matter. CHIJ friends are friends for life. I encourage each of you to invest real time and heart into your friendships here. These bonds of sisterhood and support will become your anchors, shaping who you are long after your school days are over.
The vision of Father Nicolas Barré shows us exactly what this looks like in real life. He looked at the vulnerable and saw an undeniable, sacred dignity in every single person. His dream was to build communities where no one is left behind, where the weak are protected, and where every person is valued for exactly who they are.
We are not just inheriting this dream. We are actively building it today. Our CHIJ journey is about the choices we make every single day. Today, we are called to a higher stewardship, a sacred duty to care for the Earth, our common home, and to protect those who are most vulnerable in our midst.
I invite each of you today to make a personal commitment. Choose a mindset where care is not just a passing feeling, but where concrete actions become the true expression of our commitment to Mother Earth and to the poor. Be true ambassadors of peace. Cultivate that peace within your own hearts first, and then carry it into your daily interactions, at home, in school, and in the public spaces you walk through every day.
Never think your actions are too small to matter. Every single time you protect our environment, listen without judgement, guide a peer with patience, stand up for the overlooked, and show unwavering belief in one another, you are keeping the spirit of Father Barré alive. A single choice to act with integrity, or one quiet moment of kindness, can completely change a life.
We have the power to make an impact right now. As one united CHIJ family, bound by one Spirit, let us renew our commitment to live with love, simplicity, and faith. Let us ensure our schools remain sanctuaries of wisdom, kindness, peace, and hope.
Believe in it, live it, and be the light in our community.
With our IJ Sisters and lay members of the Nicolas Barré family, I wish you all a deeply meaningful and happy Feast Day.

2025 Year End Message from Ms Vivienne Lim, Chairperson of the CHIJ Board of Management

Message from Ms Vivienne Lim, Chairperson, IJ Board of Management
As I pen these final thoughts for the school yearbook, marking the close of my 15-year tenure as Chairperson of the IJ Board of Management, I do so with a heart overflowing with gratitude.
It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to serve this treasured institution that is the CHIJ Mission, a legacy founded 363 years ago in France and 171 years ago in Singapore. I am deeply grateful for the chance to serve alongside our ever-faithful and beloved IJ Sisters, as well as the esteemed and selfless members of the IJ Board of Management, and be constantly inspired by each of them.
I am very grateful for the many opportunities to work with each of your inspiring school leaders who lead with heart and clarity of purpose, always anchored in the mission entrusted to them. I am profoundly thankful to have witnessed, year after year, the steady and remarkable growth of CHIJ Primary. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the dedicated teachers and non-teaching staff who give so generously of themselves to the school, and most especially, to our girls. To witness your individual growth, your collective achievements, and to hear of your contributions to the greater good has been the truest reward of this service.
At its heart, the CHIJ mission of education is a ministry of love – one that seeks to touch lives, awaken purpose, and form hearts rooted in faith. From the vision of Blessed Nicolas Barré to the pioneering spirit of Mother Mathilde Raclot, the mission calls us to uplift, to empower, to see beyond differences or limitations, and to nurture the whole person. I am very heartened to see this sacred mission continue to endure and thrive in CHIJ Primary today.
The journey of life brings both joys and challenges. At times, the path has felt uncertain and moments of darkness touch us. Yet it is in these very moments that we are called to be beacons of hope and light, to shine most brightly when shadows fall. My hope is that we strive to walk with one another, to lift one another when we stumble, and to carry the light for those who find it difficult to see. In doing so, we live out the mission of our CHIJ schools: to form persons of integrity, faith, love, and service.
May gratitude shape your outlook, may faith sustain your courage in times of challenge, and may hope inspire you to be a light for others. And may we always strive to be “Simple in Virture, Steadfast in Duty”.
It has been my profound honour to share this journey with you.
May God continue to bless CHIJ Primary, her leaders, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, parents and alumnae, now and always.2024 was a very special year for us as CHIJ celebrated its 170th anniversary. An album with 12 songs written by students, teachers and alumni from across the CHIJ family of schools was launched at the event.
